The twenty-four-year-old Virginia Native had planned to make the army a career. He was sent to Vietnam in June 1966 and became a team leader in Company B of the 2nd Battalion, 8th Calvary, 1st Calvary Division (Airmobile). Willis died on March 18, 1967. The Staff Sergeant was survived by his wife, a daughter, his parents and three brothers.
