Williams worked as a department store stock boy for a year before joining the Marines in January 1966. The 20-year-old lance corporal was sent to Vietnam, where he was a messenger in Company E of the Second Batallion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine division. Williams died of shrapnel wounds on May 3, 1967.
