The 18-year-old private left Thomas Edison High School in 1964 to join the Army. He was sent to Vietnam in May 1965 and assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, U.S. Army, Vietnam. The light weapons infantryman was fatally wounded during a disturbance in downtown Saigon on Dec. 13, 1965. Survivors included his parents, three broth-ers and three sisters.
