Warner bad enlisted in the Array because he thought he was assured a place in Officers Candidate School. Instead, he was assigned to an infantry unit and sent to Vietnam, where he joined Company D of the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division. The rifleman was killed in Cu Chi, Vietnam, Han, Nghia Province, on June 21, 1969. a month before his 21st birthday. Warner was a Cardinal Dougherty High School graduate and was active in sports at the Lawncrest Recreation Center, where an annual award is named in his honor. He had trained on computers and was a programmer at Pennwalt Chemical Co. before enlisting. The corporal was survived by his wife, parents, two brothers and two sisters.
