The 19-year-old Army private first class, a light weapons infantryman and ammunition carrier, died in Vietnam on April 5, 1966. He had been assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division. Stanchek left Olney High School in November 1963, and had entered the service in January 1964. He was survived by his parents.
