"Jimmy" Scott, third of eight children, played basketball at West Catholic High School and Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science before being drafted into the Army in September 1967. The 21-year-old specialist four, an ammunition bearer, was sent to Vietnam and assigned to Company D of the 4th Battalion, 21st Infantry, 11th Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division. In a letter to a sister Scott confided that he didn't think he would make it home. He died in Due Pho, Quang Ngai Province, on Sept. 22, 1968, and was posthumously awarded the Silver Star. Survivors included his parents, five brothers and two sisters.
