Satchell left Overbrook High School in the 11th grade and joined the Marines. He was a member of White Rock Baptist Church and active in the Lamba Cents Social Club. The 18-year-old private, a gunner, was sent to Vietnam and assigned to Headquarters and Service Company of the 1st Battalion. 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. Satchell wrote home from Vietnam two days before his death in Quang Tri Province, on Feb. 11, 1968, that everything was going well although his unit was surrounded by Viet Cong. He was survived by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
