Morgan attended Bishop Neumann High School, and joined the Marine Corps on his 17th birthday. He arrived in Da Nang, Vietnam, exactly two years later. The 19-year-old corporal was an administrative specialist in Company D of the 7th Engineer Battalion. Morgan died at the Yokosuka (Japan) Naval Base Hospital on Aug. 24, 1970, as a result of wounds suffered in Quang Nam Province, Vietnam. Survivors included his parents and a sister.
