Milek immigrated to Philadelphia from Germany in 1956. He attended Bok Vocational High School before enlisting in the Marine Corps in December 1966. The corporal, a field radio operator, was sent to Vietnam and as-signed to Battery E of the 2nd Battalion, 12th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. Muck had written home that he was looking forward to R&R leave in Australia when he died in Quang Tri Province on April 6, 1968. He was 19 years old. Milek was survived by his parent three brothers and four sisters.
