The 22-year-old auto mechanic enlisted in the Marine Corps in May 1966 in order "to make this a better world" for his son, a family member recalled. Mikosz, a mechanic died in Quang "Fri Province, Vietnam, on Jan. 28, 1968, one of his half-brothers an 18-year Army veteran, had just returned home from Vietnam, while the other half-brother, a 14-year Army veteran, was scheduled to go there shortly after Mikosz's death. Mikosz was a 1963 graduate of Dobbins Vocational High School and had worked as an auto mechanic for three years. In addition to his half-brothers and son, he was survived by his wife, parents, a sister and a half-sister.
