"Rick" McNichols and his wife were expecting their first child when he left for Vietnam. The 1963 Thomas Edison High School graduate was a fire team leader assigned to Cornpany H of the 2nd Battalion1st Marines. 1st Marine Division, and was considering a Career in the Marine Corps. He was killed on July 21, 1966, in Doug Ha, Quang Tri Province, one of several Philadelphians to die during Operation Hastings. In addition to his wife and child, the 22-year-old corporal was survived by his parent's two brothers and three sisters.
