Like his uncle before him, McDonald wanted to make a career of the Marines was a member of the swimming, boxing and track teams at South Philadelphia High School, and enlisted two months after his graduation in June 1967. The 19-year-old private first class a rifleman in Company B of the 1st Battalion, 26th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, died in Quang Tn Province, Vietnam, on Feb. 25, 1968. He was survived by his parents and a sister.
