The 27-year-old Army staff sergeant was sent to Vietnam in August 1967 where he was a platoon sergeant with Company C of the 5th Battalion, 7th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). He died on
Jan. 12. 1968. McClary had attended South Carolina State College before enlisting in June 1962. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star.
