Martin played football and basketball at Benjamin Franklin High School before joining the Army in September 1966. The 18-year-old specialist tank loader was sent to Vietnam and assigned to Headquarters and Head-quarters Troop of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. Martin was killed southwest of Loc Ninh, Binh Long Province on Jan. 6, 1968, when the tank on which he was riding was hit. He was survived by his parents, a brother and two sisters. Crown Avenue, South Torresdale The 1969 Girard College honors graduate was too young to fulfill his dream of joining the Pennsylvania State Police, so in November 1969 be enlisted in the Army. The 18-year-old corporal was sent to Vietnam in August 1970 and assigned to Company C of the 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry. Martin died at Duc Phou, Quang Ngai Province on Sept. 7, 1970. Re had been a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church on Paul Street. Survivors include his mother, four brothers and three sisters.
