The young paratrooper had attended Edison High School and worked as a short order cook in a restaurant and bar before enlisting in the Army in March 1967. The specialist four, a grenadier, was sent to Vietnam and assigned to Company B of the 2nd Battalion, 501st Infantry, and 101st Airborne Division. Martin died in Vietnam on March 24, 1968. He was 18 years old. Survivors include his mother.
