Sgt. Jones' Army career took him to Germany and Korea and, in June 1966. to Company C of the 2nd Battalion. 18th infantry, 1st Infantry Division, in Vietnam. The 30-year.old squad leader died on Feb. 1, 1966, the day the United States resumed bombing North Vietnam after a 37-day halt during which it made another peace Initiative to Hanoi. Jones was survived by his wife. two sons and a daughter.
