The Marine Corps private first class was stationed in the Philippines when be asked to be transferred to Vietnam. Before leaving for the war, he told his parents that should any-thing happen to him, be wanted his $10,000 combat death insurance payment used to educate his three younger brothers and to pro-vide a down payment for his parents' first home. The 20-year-old rifleman died in Quang Ngai Province on March 5, 1966. during Operation Double Eagle II. He was survived by his parents and three brothers.
