Grice was a scuba diver and paratrooper, as well as an expert in judo and karate. He left Benjamin Franklin High School in his junior year in June 1966 and enlisted in the Marine Corps. The lance corporal, a rifleman assigned to Company D of the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, drowned on Aug. 27, 1967, while bathing in a river in Quang Nam Province, Vietnam. He was 18 years old. Once was survived by his mother, two sisters and a brother.
