Gillespie. a staff sergeant, died on Christmas Day 1969 at the age of 27. He began his Army career in January 1962 and was stationed in Germany twice before being shipped to Vietnam in March 1969 and as-signed to C Battery of the 5th Battalion, 22nd Artillery. Gillespie, a rocket launcher crewman, died in Japan of third-degree burns and fragment wounds he suffered in Vietnam, He had graduated from high school in Sarasota, Fla. Survivors included his wife and three sons.
