A back on the football team and a strong Voice in the Capella choir, "Ted" Fischer led an active life at Frankford High School. Teachers there remember the 1962 graduate as an honest, hard-working student with a dramatic flair, Unsure of what he wanted to do, Fischer en-listed in the Marine Corps in November 1962. In some of his last letters borne from Vietnam, he asked his par-outs to look into colleges for him. The 22-year-old lance corporal, a radioman for ~Company A of the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, died in the hamlet of Phu Bai, Quang Tri Province, on March 20, 1966. Frankford High School gives its football captain the Teddy Fischer Award each year in his memory.
