Between July and October 1969, Farnsworth participated in more than 25 missions in Vietnam as a helicopter gunner with Company E of the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry. 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). In 1968, he graduated from, West Philadelphia High School, where he was a member of the Citizens Association. Farnsworth was a security guard for Atlantic Richfield Corp. before being drafted, and planned to return there when he got home. The 21-year-old specialist four was killed on Oct. 21. 1969, when a mine exploded while he was on patrol near the Saigon River. Farnsworth was survived by his parents a brother and two sisters.
