The soft-spoken Evans loved music and sing. ing and always could be counted on to help at family functions, parties and picnics. He enlisted in the Army in September 1964 and was sent to Vietnam in January 1966, where he was assigned to Company B of the 2nd Battalion, 35th infantry. The 18 year-old private first class, an ammunition bearer, died on May 29, 1966. He was awarded the Silver Star. Survivors included his mother.
