A member of Cardinal Dougherty High School's award-winning band in the early l96Os, "Tom' Duckett joined the Marine Corps three months after his June 1965 graduation. In Vietnam, the l9-year-old lance corporal was assigned to Company L of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. The riflernan died near Da Nang, Quang Nam Province, on Nov. 2, 1966, as the result of injuries from friendly mortar fire. He was survived by his parents, a brother and seven sisters.
