Conlin loved to make people laugh, and especially enjoyed imitating longtime Philadelphia disc jockey Jerry Blavat. “He created an atmosphere at home and with his friends as being a special person who truly had a charismatic charm about him,” his mother recalled. Basketball was his favorite sport, and at 6-foot-2, he excelled at it. Conlin graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1964 and worked for a textile firm and in the Philadelphia Inquirer mailroom before being drafted into the Army in June 1967. The sergeant, a squad and team leader was assigned to Company C of the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division, in Vietnam. He died on Dec. 14, 1968, at the age of 22. Survivors include his mother and a sister.
