Comber wrote his mother from Vietnam that he once stood on the shore of the South China Sea wondering if he could see home if he looked hard enough. The young man enlisted in the Army in January 1970 after graduating from Frankford High School and spending a semester at Bucks County Community College. The private first class, a rifleman and intelligence specialist assigned to Company A of the 4th Battalion, 3rd Infantry, America! Division, died northeast of Kbe Sahn, Quang Tn Province, on Feb. 15, 1971. He was 19 years old.
