Clay was a cook before entering the Marine Corps in August 1965. The 21-year-old corporal was assigned to the 2nd Civil Affairs Group of the 3rd Marine Amphibious Force in Vietnam. He died in Quang Nam Province on Jan. 3, 1968. Survivors include his parents.
