Shining shoes, selling newspapers and running errands for a barber shop were some of the jobs "Pete" Clark, the only boy of eight children, held to help support his family. After being shot and harassed by Street gangs, the former Simon Gratz High School student enlisted in the Army in September 1965 and was sent to Vietnam. The private first class, a grenadier assigned to Company B of the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry, 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, died near Dak To, Kontum Province, on June 8, 1966. He was 19 years old. Clark had named his three youngest sisters as beneficiaries of his military insurance policy to pay for their educations. He was survived by his parents and sisters
